Three makeup mistakes that age you instantly – don’t do them

A make-up guru claims you’re probably making three big mistakes when applying products – and it’s ageing you rapidly.

Alison Gay, known as alisongaymakeup on TikTok, said people make these simple errors when painting their faces in the morning, and it makes them look much older.

According to the pro, the first thing people usually get wrong is using “too much concealer”. If you go in heavy handed with the product, she said it will only lead to “liney skin”.

As well as this, she said it will leave your undereye “super, super dry”, and this will make your eye bags look “horrific”. Alison added: “Not to mention, you will look 100.”

She then proves her point by zooming in on the one eye she’s applied make-up to in a bid to prove her point. The result left many people shocked.

To fix the problem, she said all you need to do is put a little spot of concealer in each corner of your eye and use a brush to blend it in. Next, apply some setting spray to hold it in place.

She also said people can make mistakes when contouring as some techniques can “drag your face down”. Alison stated you need to be precise when it comes to placement, and start by finding where your cheekbone lies.

By using her finger she was able to pin-point the lines of where you should apply the make-up and blend it in. This allows the make-up to look more “lifted”, and less harsh.

Blusher placement is another area where she sees people go wrong, as they often use circular movements to put the product all over the cheeks while pouting. But, when you relax your face, she said your cheeks drop, and it can make them look “saggy”.

To do it properly, she said you need to put your finger on your cheekbone again, and only apply the product to the area above the line. She said you don’t actually need the colour to plaster your cheeks.

Since she shared the video, it’s been liked more than 27,000 times and garnered hundreds of comments. Many can’t believe where they’ve been going wrong.

One person said: “I did my make-up the other day using your tips, and and got told my make-up was flawless, so thank you.”

Another wrote: “Doing my concealer as you suggested was a game changer for me.” A third replied: “I’m 60, and I really appreciate these tips, especially the concealer on the bags. Thank you so much.”

Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “Love your demo. I’m 74, and trying to keep up with the new techniques.”
