Queen Mary sparks frenzy with ‘sublime’ outfit as she hosts first state visit with King | Royal | News

Queen Mary of Denmark turned heads as she and husband King Frederik hosted their first state banquet to honour Iceland’s President Halla Tómasdóttir and her husband Björn Skúlason.

The glittering gala took place at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen on Tuesday night.

Denmark’s Queen spread a message of sustainability after she recycled an old top featuring an asymmetric neckline from 2014 by Danish designer Jesper Hovring and paired it with Oscar de la Renta’s tiered ruffle gala skirt, which she first wore in 2005 both in navy blue.

She completed the look by wearing Prada’s Raso clutch and a pair of Romy 100 heels by Jimmy Choo.

For accessories, she opted for a pair of glistening diamond earrings and necklace from the Antique Diamond Parure but it was her stunning tiara which stole the show.

Mary donned the Pearl Poire tiara, which she first wore on a state visit to Norway earlier this year.

The tiara is part of a set first produced in 1820 for Princess Louise of Prussia’s wedding with Prince Frederik of The Netherlands in 1825.

It’s made of white gold and constructed as a series of stylised, diamond-ornamented lotus flowers, which together form open, slightly tapered arches in slightly increasing height towards the centre of the tiara. From each of the arches hangs a large pear-shaped pearl, thus the name pearl “poires”, which dangles with movement.

Royal fans appear to have loved Queen Mary’s recycled look and took to social media to praise her.

One user wrote on Instagram: “This is sublime! She has access to the most amazing seamstress wow!”

A second one said: “I love the way Queen Mary combines elements of clothing, creating new outfits, each one beautiful, regal and elegant.”

A third one added: “This deep navy is so regal and beautiful on Queen Mary. Although 10 to 20 years old each piece she makes them relevant and stylish for the moment. She as a wonderful eye for great style.”

Iceland’s visit is the first incoming state visit for the Danish King and Queen since Frederik’s ascension to the throne earlier this year.
