Shoppers call for Celebrations advent calendar to be ‘banned’

One of the best things about the run-up to Christmas day is the excitement of opening an advent calendar every single day. Whether you’ve opted to push the boat out and treat yourself to a beauty one this year, or you’re keeping it simple with a chocolate behind each door, there’s nothing more exciting than a little treat each morning.

But those with a Celebrations advent calendar have been left fuming at what has been behind doors one to three, with some saying they’re “taking the p**s”. Taking to Mumsnet, one woman fumed: “So, day one and day two have been Bountys. The kids are not impressed. My son has just opened day three, and yep, you guessed it, it’s another Bounty!”

She asked people whether she was being unreasonable “to think this is taking the p**s somewhat”, because there had been “three in a row”. “I’m wondering if they’re all going to be Bountys”, she seethed.

And she’s not the only one who has been enraged by the choice of chocolate behind the first three doors, as many have taken to X, formerly Twitter, to express horror. One man raged: “Kids are actually crying at having a third Bounty in a row in their Celebrations Advent calendar. It’s an absolute shocker.”

Another seethed: “Had enough of this advent calendar now…Celebrations Advent calendar [with] three days of Bounty. The whole lot is about to get launched out a window in flames. Absolutely fuming”.

Someone else labelled it a “disgrace”, claiming that “Celebrations are definitely trying to take the p**s with these advent calendars.” An X user even said they thought it might be “a PR stunt”.

It’s not the first time it’s happened either, as the advent calendar was labelled a “sick joke” in 2020 when it featured four Bountys in a row – days one to four – so fans could be in the same position again. In 2019, it was behind two consecutive doors.

In the Mumsnet comments, someone said: “They did this a few years ago… caused outrage and their social media was blowing up because of it. I love a Bounty.”

Another added: “The Bounty should be banned. Who on earth thinks that coconut is an acceptable filling for a bar of chocolate? My brother went through three tubs of Celebrations (lockdown Christmas 2020) and discovered all three had a disproportionately high Bounty/good ones ratio. If you get a fourth, I would be writing a stern email…”

One eco-friendly mum penned: “I have a felt calendar and put celebrations in myself. Saves a bunch of disappointment and is better for the environment”.
