Delivery driver’s warning to customers with dogs in home

A delivery driver issued a stark message to customers who fail to restrain their dogs when they’re expecting a parcel.

The worker shared how his opinion on dogs has completely changed after realising how dangerous they can be, especially when untrained or left to their own devices.

He said on Reddit: “I used to love dogs. Always wanted one myself. But this job made me realise how dangerous these beasts actually are. I haven’t been bitten yet, but I foresee an accident coming. Almost every house I deliver to has a barking dog that sounds like it’s about to choke itself to death, it’s insane.”

The man went onto explain how he has had a number of close calls when he almost became a dog’s ‘lunch’, saying he is always being lunged at by someone’s pet. But what annoys him the most, is how the owners react after their pet tries to jump up at him.

He added: “One lady didn’t even apologise after one of her 3 dogs she was walking tried attacking me! My favourite is when customers request for a front door delivery, typically gated homes, without mentioning their dog is loose.

“They always say, ‘He’s friendly’ or ‘he/she just wants to play!’ Sorry, but my opinion on your dog is set, no matter what you say. For people that love dogs, I always tell them to try doing any sort of delivery service, and see if you still like them.

“I’m sick of people placing more importance on dogs than human lives. This ain’t a joke, and countless people are being injured or even killed by dogs every single day. But who am I to say anything, dogs can never do any wrong.”

Commenting on his post, one user said: “I hate watching the videos on social media where dogs are scaring the s*** out of drivers and the owners think it’s funny. Then you read the comments and they’re full of the usual dog nuttery. Some people even say that you shouldn’t be a delivery driver if you’re afraid of dogs.”

Another user added: “I’m a delivery driver too and I completely get it. I actually used to be a dog person but started hating them before I took up the gig. Now I hate them even more. Hang in there friend!”

A third user said: “I’m so sorry you had to deal with that. My dad’s a mailman and a pit bull bit through his hand while he was doing his delivery rounds a couple years back. Owner took no responsibility and instead tried suing USPS for my dad having defended himself and fighting off the dog. Dog owners can be ridiculous dude.”
