The Winter solstice is fast approaching
The Winter Solstice is fast approaching, with December 21 marking the shortest day and longest night of the year.
The solstice marks the start of Capricorn season, the time in the zodiac that encourages personal reflection, balance, and preparation for the changes that come with the end of the year.
Ahead of this Rant Casino has partnered with Psychic Inbaal Honigman, who provides her expert astrological insight into what each zodiac sign can expect this Winter Solstice and beyond.
With one sign set to feel “adventurous and inspired” while another should prepare themselves to be thrust into the centre of attention, there’s plenty in store for everyone this winter solstice.

Find out what you can expect from the solstice
Aries: 21 March – 19 April
Aries, with their love of extremes, can expect to thrive this Winter solstice, as Inbaal predicts that you’ll likely be feeling adventurous and inspired during the long night.
She explains: “Your ruling planet, passionate Mars, is in powerful Leo on Solstice night and beyond, so this could push you to do something huge. You could be inspired to write a book, organise a trip with your cousins or invest in a new start-up, all on the night of the Solstice.”
Taurus: 20 April – May 20
“You love keeping cosy, so the coldest, darkest point of winter isn’t a great hardship for you, as you’ll be home anyway, wrapped in a fluffy quilt and clutching a mug of hot cocoa, while leafing through an old book,” Inbaal explains, adding that you may find it difficult to reemerge when the sun returns.
On the night of the solstice itself, Uranus, which is the planet of rebellion, is in Taurus, so you may find yourself thinking of doing things differently next year. You may find yourself scribbling some ideas in a notebook, and although you may not immediately act on these ideas, be sure to keep the notebook handy as these may prove fruitful later in the year.
Gemini: 21 May – 20 June
As free spirits, Geminis are not likely to be particularly affected by the solstice itself. However, it will be completely boring as your ruling planet, Mercury, will be in Sagittarius, a sign of adventure and expansiveness.
This solstice, Inbaal predicts, while you’re out and about just looking for a nice time and some peace away from all the festivities, you’ll get chatting with a person who can introduce you to a whole new career brimming with abundance.
Cancer: 21 June – 22 July
For cancers, the winter solstice is likely not your most memorable time of the year, as you’re typically lunar. The Moon is your heavenly ruler, meaning it is the new and full moon that are strongly felt in your life. Both the Solstices and the Equinoxes are Solar, meaning they won’t have too much of an impact on your life.
On Solstice day itself, the moon is in neat and tidy Virgo, therefore you may feel moved to start planning the year ahead. You set your goals for the year ahead, check your bank balance and make some big decisions.
Leo: 23 July – 22 August
As Leo is ruled by the sun, you will likely feel the highs and lows of the Solar year more than most. The more sunlight Leo gets, the more positively charged you become, meaning the shortest day of the year may impact you quite a bit.
Inbaal says: “Solstice Day itself is a bit of a low point for this reason because you could do with more light hours, but immediately following Winter Solstice, the sun goes into the motivated and ambitious sign of Capricorn. You’ll, therefore, spend the next few days filling in job applications and brainstorming business ideas, feeling focused and successful.”
Virgo: 23 August – 22 September
“Your neat and tidy personality quite enjoys following the changing seasons, checking the clocks to see how sunset is a little earlier each day, and then a little later once the Winter Solstice has passed,” Inbaal explains. On Solstice day, the moon happens to be in your sign.
“When the moon is in Virgo, everyone around you behaves in a slightly more Virgoan way – they message you back, they meet you on time, and if they promised they’d pick you up some shopping on the way, every item is there in the bag.” This means that during the solstice, you can dream a little – make plans for the year ahead, but keep them fun and interesting, planning holidays, away days and adventurous breaks.
The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year
Libra: 23 September – 22 October
As a fan of balances rather than extremes, it’s the Equinoxes that speak to you more than the Solstices since days that are too long are as unpalatable to you as those that are too short.
Venus happens to be in humanitarian Aquarius. It will stay there until January 3, and this means that your focus will drift away from financial matters and more towards charity. You may have more of an interest in helping those who are less capable, more disadvantaged, and in need of help.
Scorpio: 23 October – 21 November
Your intense and mysterious personality perfectly suits the longest night of the year. Your sign is fearless and welcoming of challenges, and once you get through the shortest day and the sun begins to return, you’ll also be unafraid of the light. Inbaal explains: “Scorpio has two ruling planets – traditionally, it is Mars, the planet of passion, and in modern times, your ruler is Pluto, the planet of transformation.
“On Winter Solstice this year, fiery Mars is in fire sign Leo and shapeshifting Pluto is in transformational Aquarius. This means that both the longest day and the shortest night inspire you to seek balance in your life and make peace with old friends who you’ve blocked long ago. You’ll reach out to distant family members and make amends.”
Sagittarius: 22 November – 21 December
On the night of the Winter Solstice, Mercury is still in Sagittarius, which means that communication is on your side. Inbaal predicts that job interviews, family meetings and even chats with your bank manager will be sure to go well during this time.
She further suggests taking advantage of this lucky Mercury placement and piling up meetings, Zoom calls and contract signings to take place before January 8.
Capricorn: 22 December – 19 January
The Winter Solstice is at the very start of Capricorn season, and it’ll soon be your birthday, which takes place right after the rebirth of the Sun. And the night of the solstice, the sun moving into your sign will increase visibility on you. Meaning you’re sure to be noticed whatever you do.
Inbaal recommends volunteering to show any new co-workers around the office, and/or accept the thankless task of gathering family contributions for the 2024 matching holiday t-shirts.
Aquarius: 20 January – 18 February
“The longest night and shortest day of the year are fascinating to you because you love the natural world, the seasonal changes, and all aspects of the shifting world around you,” Inbaael says. “They make you feel like you’re a part of creation, and you enjoy that.”
Venus, the planet of love, is in your sign during the Winter Solstice period, meaning that love will find its way to you, and/or you’ll rediscover your love of matchmaking. However, when you start to pair people up, your friends may start to worry as your matchmaking criteria are likely based on vibes, not anything the intended couple may have in common.
Pisces: 19 February – 20 March
For creative and artistic Pisces, the Winter Solstice may evoke memories of snowy tales that you read as a child, and you connect to the desolate symbolism of the longest night, the darkest day of the year. Here is when your mind may wander to reflection2.
Inbaal finishes: “At the stroke of Solstice, you climb out of the overthinking funk. Two planets are in your sign right now – Saturn, mature planet of karma and Neptune, planet of illusion. Those inspire you to dream big, and you decide who you want to be by summer. A new job, a new wardrobe, a new partner, anything is possible.”
